Bio

서명수 교수는 한양대학교(학사)와 서울대학교(석사)에서 건축을 전공하고, 삼우설계에서 3년 반 실무를 수행한 후 도미하여 미국 플로리다대학교(University of Florida)에서 웨이 자우(Dr. Hui Zou) 교수의 지도로 건축역사, 이론 및 역사보존 전공으로 박사학위를 취득하였다. 캐나다 맥길대학교(McGill University)와 규장각한국학연구원 연구원을 거쳐, 2018년부터 한경국립대학교에 재직하였고 2026년부터 한양대학교에 합류하였다. 한국 근대건축의 기원, 동서양 비교 연구와 및 보존과 활용을 주요 연구 주제로 진행하고 있다.

Seo Myengsoo received his BS from Hanyang University and his MS from Seoul National University. After working for three and a half years at SAMOO Architects & Engineers, he moved to the United States and earned his Ph.D. in Architectural History, Theory, and Historic Preservation from the University of Florida under the supervision of Dr. Hui Zou. He subsequently worked as a researcher at McGill University in Canada and at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies. Since 2018, he served as a faculty member at Hankyong National University, and in 2026 he joined Hanyang University. His research focuses on the origins of Korean modern architecture, East–West comparative studies, and issues of preservation and adaptive use.
