Bio

맹민정 교수는 한양대학교 건축학과 교수이다. 교육자, 건축사 및 엔지니어이다. 한양대학교에 부임 전에 미국 조지아 공과대학과 홍콩대학에서 교수하며 연구와 강의를 하였다. 그 전에는 미국과 한국의 건축 설계 및 엔지니어링 사무소에서 다년간 풍부한 실무를 익혔다. 미국의 여러 대형 건설 프로젝트에 디자인 전문가로 참여한 경험이 있다. 주요 연구 분야는 지속가능성(sustainability), 건축물의 성능 설계, 설계 기술 통합, 건축물 외피 (파사드), 빌딩 시스템 및 도시 과학이다. 세부적으로 도시의 마이크로 기후, 지속가능한 고밀도 도시, 미래 도시, 건축물 외피 제작 기술 및 성능 의사 결정을 위한 데이터 기반 통합 워크플로 분석에 대한 설계 영향 분야의 연구를 해왔다. 플랫폼 아키텍처 "Architecture Integrated Research" (Platform AIR) 연구실은 도시와 빌딩에서 새로운 삶의 형태를 혁신하기 위해 여러 분야의 지식과 담론을 개발하는 플랫폼이다. 맹민정 교수는 미국 펜실베니아 대학교에서 건축 및 공학학사, 스탠포드 대학교에서 공학석사, 그리고 매사추세츠 공과 대학 (MIT) 에서 건축학석사 (MArch.) 학위를 받았다. 또한 미국 건축사(AIA), 기술사(Professional Engineer), 및 친환경인증기술사 (LEED AP) 자격증을 취득하였다.

Minjung Maing is an educator, architect and engineer. She is Professor at School of Architecture at Hanyang University Seoul where she teaches design studios, core building technology courses and postgraduate thesis. Her research interests are sustainable cities, creativity + science integration, building envelope technology, and building and urban science.

Prior to joining Hanyang University, she taught at University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, and practiced in both architecture design and engineering firms throughout USA and Seoul. Her main areas of specialization are sustainability, performance-based design, design-technology integration, building façade systems and urban planning for livable cities. She directs research in areas of building design impact on urban microclimate, sustainable high-density cities, future cities, building facade fabrication technologies, and data-driven integrated workflow analysis for performance decision-making. Her research lab, Platform Architecture “Architecture Integrated Research” is founded on creating platforms to develop applications of scientific knowledge in design and to promote discourse across multiple disciplines to innovate new forms of living in cities and buildings. Minjung has served as building facade design expert on several large construction projects in USA. She holds degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and University of Pennsylvania. She is a registered Architect (AIA, NCARB) and licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and LEED AP.
